DRIVE Methodology

A customer chooses a standard application because it brings the benefit of a tried and tested solution and at lower product and implementation costs. Coupled with the lower implementation cost is a faster exploitation of value.

While the standard solution removes the traditional need for highly detailed systems analysis it does not take away the key need of ensuring that the application is effectively implemented in support of the business process. And in some cases amendments may be needed to satisfy specific requirements.

With these considerations in mind visualmetrics applies a methodology for implementing analytical applications. We call this methodology DRIVE (Discovery Reveal Integrate Visibility Exploit).

The Discover phase of DRIVE identifies the readiness of an enterprise to implement a Business Intelligence solution and identifies the methods and metrics by which it will manage its corporate performance.

The Assess service within Discover assesses the feasibility of starting the project by asking key questions which probe the ability of the organisation to embrace the necessary change.

In the Analyse service the enterprise’s metrics, reporting requirements and change programmes are defined.

The Reveal phase identifies the functional and technical changes and developments that are required by the findings of Discover.

For a custom build application the Design service within Reveal produces a Requirements Definition Document which details the technical design of the application.

The Align service, used when implementing a standard analytical application with @DRIVE, produces a Delta Requirements Document setting out the modifications to be made against the standard application.

The solution is built in the Integrate phase. For custom applications the Build service constructs the application from the Requirements Definition Document of Reveal. For implementations of a standard analytical application the Amend service applies those modifications identified in the Delta Requirements Document of Reveal. In both cases the application is then configured and integrated with the existing operational applications.

It is during the Visualise phase that the application first becomes visible to the broad base of end users. The application is dry run and commissioned, with support staff, key users and end users being trained through a series of roll-out training programmes. visualmetrix provide on site support and user documentation.

The Exploit phase covers the operational life of the solution. It comprises a set of services to suit individual customer needs. Secure service is a comprehensive service that ensures the application continues to deliver benefit as the business environment changes, as well as maintaining system operability. The Protect Service concentrates only on maintaining system operability. It does not keep application functionality aligned to changing business needs. Sustain is a call off consultancy contract for a prescribed numbers of man-days, based on the clients own assessment of need for professional project support. The Review Service is a health check appropriate where the application has not been audited or assessed for a considerable time.
